The unique nature of Baikal creates favorable conditions for a lot of animals that do not live in other places of the planet. The majority of the endemic animals of the Lake today are protected, but alas – the Red Book of Baikal every year becomes even thicker.
The Ushkany Islands are an uncharted and challenging mystery of Baikal. It is not easy for a tourist to get here: you need to obtain permission in advance. However, in spite of all that, these wild lands are visited by more than 150 tourists each year.
Today, on the shores of Lake Baikal, there are 3 reserves and 2 national parks, which are open all year round for visitors and hold all the secrets of this ancient land.
Baikal, without a doubt, is a unique lake: there are a lot of words written about it and much is said about its nature or rather its flora and its fauna. Nowadays they are often talked about with the prefix "rare" or "endangered" attached to them.
